Practice, practice, practice.

Open studio includes access to the studio, basic pottery equipment, and storage space. It’s the best studio time to practice the skills and techniques you've learnt in term class.

Studio access time must be reserved in advance. Each reservation is limited to 1 persons and is 3 hours per day (Saturday or Sunday 3-6PM). To be eligible for open studio you must have previously completed at minimum 1 term of classes either with TPS or elsewhere.

What’s included:

  • Recycled clay is available for purchase at $2/KG in studio.

    Fresh TPS brand midfire clay is available for purchase in studio ($30-$50/bag).

    Only midfire clay is permitted in the studio. Please ask one of a member of our team otherwise.

    Studio glazes are available at +$5/KG firing price (see ‘Firing’). Outside glazes permitted but to follow firing agreements.

  • Storage for any pieces made during open studio is available. Makers are responsible for the maintenance of their own works.


    Pieces made during open studio are to be dated, and will be stored for a maximum of 3 weeks before being recycled.

  • Bisque (1000C) and midfire (1200C) firings are available at $12.50/KG. Pieces are weighed before firing.


    ‘Terrapotter Studios — Public Firing Agreement’ must be completed before each firing.

PrOJECt, project, project.

Independent practice is your weekly time to dedicate to a personal project. It includes 4x weekly set times in the studio, your tools and materials, behind the scenes care for your pieces, firings, and an instructor to help you troubleshoot your work.

Independent practice must be booked in advance, and sign ups include all 4 sessions. To be eligible for independent practice, you must have previously completed at minimum 3 term classes either with TPS of elsewhere.

  • You will have access to any TPS clays and glazes available at the time.

  • You will have your own designated storage space, and the studio will assisting wrapping your pieces and keeping them leather hard for you when needed.

  • Bisque and midfire firing is included. Additional firings are not (I.e: lustre).

    The terms and conditions from: Terrapotter Studios — Public Firing Agreement’ are applied.

  • Studio access time is only available to students who have completed a minimum of 1 term at TPS (or equivalent). Please contact the TPS team if unsure.

  • Potters attending open studio are responsible for the clean up of any equipment used, and the maintenance/outcome of their own pieces.

  • We ask that potters joining the open studio space respect their fellow makers by maintaining a positive workspace, and minimising any unnecessary noise.

By reserving your studio time, you are agreeing to the studio policies and guidelines. The studio reserves the right to remove and withhold access to the studio for any reason.
